The Ultimate Guide to Fall Fishing: What You Need to Know

As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to fall, many anglers know that this is the perfect season for a fishing trip. Fall brings cooler temperatures, less crowded waters, and a variety of fish species that are more active.

If you’re thinking about going on a fishing trip this fall, now is the time to get prepared. Let’s explore why fall is the best time to fish, what you can expect to catch, and how to make your trip a success.

Why Fall is the Ideal Time for a Fishing Trip

To begin with, fall offers more comfortable temperatures compared to the hot summer months, making it easier to spend extended hours on the water. Cooler weather means you won’t have to deal with the intense heat, which is often exhausting. Additionally, fish tend to be more active during this time as they prepare for the colder months ahead. This increased activity creates more opportunities for you to land a great catch.

Furthermore, the fall season brings an abundance of baitfish and shrimp into the waters, attracting many game fish that are looking for an easy meal. Because of this, fish are more likely to bite, giving you a better chance of a successful outing. Also, the water tends to be clearer in the fall, which improves visibility and makes it easier to spot fish and position your bait effectively.

What Types of Fish Can You Catch in the Fall?

When you go fishing in the fall, you’ll find a wide variety of fish species ready to bite. Near the shore, you might encounter fish such as Bonito, Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, and Black Drum. These fish are often found close to the beach and require a good cast and some patience to catch. However, once you get the bait in front of them, you can expect plenty of action.

If you prefer fishing inshore, the fall season is a great time for targeting Flounder, Redfish, and Speckled Trout. These species are more active in cooler weather and are often found in shallower waters, making them easier to catch during this time.

deep-sea-fishing-1.jpg?w=1000&h=1000

deep sea fishing in Myrtle Beach SC

On the other hand, if deep sea fishing in Myrtle Beach SC is more your style, you can expect to catch Triggerfish, Amberjack, Grouper, and Red Snapper. These fish tend to hide in deeper waters near ledges, rocks, and coral reefs. Also, you might find King Mackerel and Cobia swimming in cooler waters, which makes for an exciting fishing experience.

And let’s not forget about sharks! Many anglers find fall to be the perfect time to target large sharks. These formidable predators are more active in cooler weather, providing a thrilling challenge for those looking to test their skills.

Best Baits, Lures, and Rigs for Fall Fishing

To make the most of your fall fishing trip in Myrtle Beach SC, it’s important to choose the right bait and tackle. Since fish are less picky and more aggressive during this season, they tend to hit harder on live baits. For example, using shrimp or cut squid can attract a wide variety of species. You can also use different lures and rigs to see which ones work best for your target fish.

Additionally, experimenting with different types of lures can be beneficial. Jigging spoons, soft plastics, and topwater lures are all good options for attracting different kinds of fish. Because prey species are less abundant in the fall, fish are more likely to strike at whatever you offer, making this the perfect time to try out new techniques.

Tips for a Successful Fall Fishing Trip

To ensure a great fishing adventure this fall, here are a few helpful tips:

  • Check the Weather Forecast: Always check the weather before you go. Fall weather can change quickly, so it’s essential to be prepared for anything.
  • Bring the Right Gear: Make sure you have the appropriate rods, reels, and tackle for the species you’re targeting. This will increase your chances of success.
  • Practice Patience: Fall fishing can require patience, especially when targeting larger species. Stay focused and be ready for when the fish start biting.
  • Hire a Local Guide: If you’re unfamiliar with the area or want to find the best spots, hiring a local guide can make a big difference. Guides know the best times and locations for fishing, which can help you have a more productive trip.
  • Stay Safe: Fall fishing often means cooler temperatures and sometimes rougher waters. Always wear a life jacket and let someone know your plans and expected return time.

Enjoy the Beauty of Fall Fishing

Fall fishing is not just about catching fish; it’s also about enjoying the beauty of nature. The calm waters, cooler air, and vibrant fall colors create a serene environment, perfect for unwinding and connecting with nature. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just getting started, fall is a fantastic time to cast a line and enjoy the great outdoors.

Now is the perfect time to plan your fall fishing adventure with Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises. Grab your gear, choose your spot, and get ready for a memorable day on the water.

With a little preparation and patience, you’re sure to have an amazing experience!  Call Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises now.

Learning from an experienced fishing guide can make all the difference. Let’s explore how a guide can help you, whether you’re new to fishing or have been doing it for years.

Tips for Finding the Right Fishing Guide

  • Ask About Their Experience: Guides with years of experience in specific waters will have a better understanding of local conditions and fish behavior.

Making the Most of Your Fishing Charter Experience

Are you ready for an unforgettable day on the water, filled with angling adventures? Whether you’re embarking on a kayak tour, stepping aboard a sportfishing yacht, or anything in between, a fishing charter can be an incredible and educational experience for fishing enthusiasts. To ensure your day goes smoothly and maximizes your enjoyment, consider these simple guidelines.

Fishing Charter Dos And Donts

1. Set Clear Expectations: Before sending that deposit check, have a candid conversation with your guide. Discuss your expectations for the day, inquire about recent fishing conditions, and understand what’s possible for the season. Get details on weather conditions, cancellation policies, included services, and potential hidden costs. Clarity is key to avoiding disputes and ensuring you know exactly what to anticipate. While seasoned guides aim for transparency, don’t hesitate to initiate this dialogue yourself.

2. Manage Your Expectations: If you have specific goals in mind, communicate them to your guide and ask for their assessment of the goal’s realism. For instance, if you’re determined to catch a particular species, inquire if it’s achievable and appropriate for the season. Keep your plans aligned with what’s realistically possible to avoid disappointment. Be open to your guide’s advice on setting achievable goals.

3. Be Prepared: If your fishing trip requires skill, practice before your trip. For instance, if you aim to catch a challenging species like permit on a fly rod, dedicate time to improving your casting skills before the trip. Success often requires a joint effort between you and your guide, so ensure you’re adequately prepared for advanced goals.

4. Bring Supplies: A full day on the water is more enjoyable when you have enough food and drinks to sustain your energy. Prepare for the possibility of long waits between bites by having sandwiches, snacks, and cold beverages on hand. Staying hydrated is crucial, especially under the sun. If you’re boating with a group, coordinate provisions in advance to avoid awkward situations.

fishing-charter-2.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&w=300&h=300&fit=max5. Drink Responsibly: While some charters permit alcohol, be cautious with consumption. Excessive drinking can lead to safety concerns and potentially spoil the experience for others. Remember that your guide is not a babysitter, so exercise restraint and save the celebrations for after the trip.

6. Trust Your Guide’s Expertise: Respect the knowledge and expertise of your guide. Avoid suggesting changes to tactics or second-guessing their choices, especially if the fishing conditions are challenging. Allow them to do their job, as they are well-equipped to adapt to varying conditions. If you prefer to call the shots, discuss this with the captain beforehand.

7. Introduce Kids to Fishing Thoughtfully: Fishing with children can be incredibly rewarding, but it’s essential to tailor the day to their interests and attention spans. Plan activities that engage them and avoid making them endure long periods of boredom or discomfort. Encourage their interest at their own pace for a lasting fishing partnership.

8. Respect the Boat and Equipment: Remember that charter operators invest significantly in boats and fishing tackle. Treat their equipment with care, avoiding damage to the vessel or gear. Accidental damage can eat into their profits, so show thoughtfulness and respect for their investments.

9. Stay Within Your Budget: While fishing charters in Myrtle Beach can be costly, avoid bringing more people than your budget allows just to split the cost. Ensure that your expectations align with your budget, and if your ambitions exceed it, consider saving up for a future trip when you can go alone.

10. Tipping Etiquette: Tipping is a gesture of appreciation for your guide’s hard work. Industry-standard suggests tipping between 15-20% of your trip cost, although it can vary. Avoid putting your guide in an uncomfortable position by asking about tipping amounts. Instead, consider their effort and how they went the extra mile to make your day memorable. Generosity is often reciprocated with exceptional service on future trips.

Now that you’re armed with these tips, get ready to embark on an incredible guided fishing journey, making the most of every moment on the water!

How to Make the Most of Your Myrtle Beach Fishing Time

Using a charter service when you go on a Myrtle Beach fishing trip offers a lot of benefits. Many people consider this a costly option, but that isn’t always the case. Here are a few things you need to know to determine if this kind of service is for you.

Why Go Fishing In Myrtle Beach

To Catch Fish

That is one of the many reasons why people go on a fishing trip. When going on vacation in a place that you’re not familiar with, fishermen would mostly rely on word of mouth for hotspots, locations, and even internet connections.

Several spots won’t be available if you don’t have a boat, whether you own it or it is just a rental. Using a fishing charter service gets rid of these issues since you don’t have to own or rent a boat. Plus, you are not expected to do anything but fish. You will enjoy the convenience of just showing up, boarding the boat, and enjoying the fishing experience.

Knowledge of The Area

Another benefit of using a local charter service when going on a Myrtle Beach fishing trip is the knowledge of the area. You’re guaranteed to catch fish, especially when you have a captain who has been fishing in the area for several years. Getting access to local spots that you would normally miss out on can significantly improve your catch.

Myrtle-Beach-fishing-2.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&w=300&h=300&fit=max

Using bigger charter boats gives you access to offshore spots that are inaccessible if you’re on a smaller boat. Knowing local hotspots could mean the difference between everyone on the boat catching fish while having a great time, or not catching anything at all.

Knowledge of the Laws and Regulations

Those who offer Myrtle Beach fishing charter services have intimate knowledge of the local regulations and laws about conservation. You will also get to know the local habitat well from someone who has a vested interest in ensuring that the laws are followed.

The captain will also treat you to several stories and tall tales of their fishing experiences. Take this as an opportunity to learn from the experts about everything related to fishing in Myrtle Beach. Find out all you can from how to bait to what equipment to use. This could be an excellent learning experience for you as an angler.

Having an expert with you like Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises will not only improve your catch but also allow you to customize it. The captain knows what fish are in season and what could be caught during that time, letting you choose your target and try to catch the fish that you want. This will get rid of the guesswork when you are trying to catch a fish and where. It also lets you go after one specific sport fish that you would like to catch.

Opting for a charter fishing service when you go on a Myrtle Beach fishing trip gets rid of all the inconvenience, headache, and prep work when going on a fishing expedition.

Why Go on a Fishing Charter Trip for the Upcoming Labor Day Weekend?

Labor Day is drawing near, and you might be wondering how you can make the most out of the upcoming holiday. If you and your family have not made any plans yet, it is the perfect weekend to book a fishing charter trip in Myrtle Beach.

With summer nearly over, now is the best time to book the season’s final game fishing adventure. Here are some good reasons why you should book a fishing charter trip in Myrtle Beach for Labor Day Weekend.

Why Book a Fishing Charter Trip:

Perfect weather for a deep-sea fishing trip.

High humidity and heat are common in Myrtle Beach during the summer. These conditions could lead to frustration if you are stuck in traffic, playing at the park, or cooking outdoors. These are some of the activities that most people will do during Labor Day weekend. But you have another option. You can rent our private fishing charter and have fun in the warm weather while out on the open water.

fishing-1-1.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&w=300&h=300&fit=maxMany people will be occupied with their barbecue parties.

Outdoor grills will be in full use during Labor Day weekend. Barbecue and Labor Day always go hand in hand. This is good news for those who are planning to go on a deep sea fishing trip. It means less competition at the hottest fishing spots and less traffic at the docks.

It’s a fantastic short vacation.

Perhaps your job responsibilities stop you from bringing your family on a long vacation. Maybe your obligations at home have a similar effect. Even if your time is limited, you can still have some time off with your family. Take a mini-vacation and go on a fishing charter trip. You and your loved ones will have the best deep-sea fishing adventure and still enjoy other activities.

No need to worry about work on Monday.

The disadvantage of most Sundays is that you need to work on Monday. But this isn’t a problem during Labor Day weekend. This holiday includes the weekend and Monday. You can rest and unwind during your three-day vacation and have enough time to relax before you go to work on Tuesday.

So, enjoy your Labor Day weekend and go on a deep sea fishing trip in Myrtle Beach with your family or friends.

Tips For The Best Fishing Tour

A great way to spend a vacation is to go on a fishing trip with friends or family to a place that you have not tried before. It will be a marvelous time to enjoy fishing and learn more about this activity.

Repeatedly going to a vacation destination that you’ve been to almost always can be pretty boring. Even going on a fishing trip to an area over and over again is not a good idea as well. So if you want to go on an enjoyable weekend, be sure to go on a fishing tour.

Exciting and Memorable Fishing Tour

Be sure to inspect your tackle before your fishing trip to Myrtle Beach. Your reel must be in good working order. Pull the line off the spool with some drag for you to know that it is smooth. If you notice any fluctuation in the drag, then you have to stop. Always remember that a smoother drag will give you higher chances of success.

When you go on a fishing tour in Myrtle Beach, make sure that the floor is as dry as it can be. The boat’s deck is sure to get wet, so you need to wear rubber-soled shoes to avoid accidental falls. Wipe up the surface of the boat with a mop or a towel before you set out on the water.

Have you ever tried fly fishing? It is a famous fishing style that is both fun and exciting and is unique when compared to other approaches. If you are interested, you should purchase different lures, rods, and clothing to participate.

You should also know where to cast by studying the seasonal migration pattern of fish. Fish are headed upstream during spring, and that is why it is best to cast uphill. Come fall, the fish will be heading in the opposite direction, so you have to fish downhill.

fishing-2.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&w=300&h=300&fit=maxWhen finding deep water areas, you have to check the water’s current. Look into places that have the deepest water when you’re river fishing. These spots usually attract fish more than shallower waters, especially when the weather is quite warm.

They might also be discovered near ledge formations and substantial rocks. Once you have located your spot on the river, be sure to take note of it for the next time.

If you are using artificial bait, be sure to change it every now and then. This tip is extremely useful if you have been out all day and still have not caught anything. There are instances when unusually bright baits can lure in fish.

You also need to wet your hands when preparing to bring a fish on the boat. This will help prevent the fish’s skin from drying out, especially if you need to release your catch back into the water.

You also need to know and follow any legal requirements for fishing in your selected location. Although a few areas might not let you fish in a certain lake or river, others might prohibit certain types of bait. One method to make sure that you are following the fishing rules and regulations is to talk to local government agencies.

If you are planning to go on a fishing tour, be sure to get in touch with Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises.

Stay Healthy and Happy By Going Fishing In Myrtle Beach

Fishing in Myrtle Beach is a rewarding sport that could be relaxing and exciting at the same time. It’s a wonderful and often ignored way for people to burn calories while having a lot of fun outdoors. A lot of people assume that fishing just involves sitting around on the bank or in a boat while waiting around for a fish to catch. But it’s actually more than that.

There are different types of fishing that can challenge you both mentally and physically. If you are in search of the best way to stay fit, destress, and enjoy the great outdoors, then fishing may very well be what you need.

Physical Benefits of Fishing Myrtle Beach

One of the many advantages of going on a fishing trip is getting some exercises. You won’t burn calories if you just sit on the shore and drink beer. You need to spend an active day wading in the stream or hiking to get to a remote lake is a great way to exercise without having to go to the gym.

Myrtle Beach fishing may involve different activities like wading against the stream’s current, hiking, and casting and reeling repeatedly. You can burn between 500 to 1,500 calories by just spending a morning or afternoon fishing with friends or family.

fishing-Myrtle-Beach-2.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&w=300&h=300&fit=maxFishing also lets you use small muscle groups that you don’t commonly use. It could also help you build fine motor skills. Navigating slippery rocks and rough terrain while resisting the river’s current, will challenge your balance, and build strength in your muscles as well as tendons in your shins, calves, ankles, and feet.

Mental Benefits of Fishing

Fishing is an activity that is good for reflection and meditation. It will force you to slow down and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There are many reasons why people go fishing in Myrtle Beach. Some just do so for food while others go on a fishing trip for sport. Others just want to have an excuse to be with friends or to spend time outdoors.

Regardless of the reason why you want to go fishing, a seasoned angler will tell you the supreme sense of calmness and relaxation that spending a morning or afternoon doing their most desired activity, can offer. This makes fishing a famous therapeutic exercise that is used by therapists and counsellors when they are working with veterans, people who suffer from chronic illness, as well as others who have gone through trauma in their lives.

Knowing what the fish will bite on, will challenge your mind and it will demand that you give it your undivided attention. Since fishing needs focus, this activity can help you take your mind off stress and other internal conflict.

Finding fish, creating a strategy, selecting a lure or fly, and correctly presenting that lure to the fish, all need creativity and critical thinking, which will give you a healthy escape from depression, stress, and anxiety.

Why Teach Your Kids About Fishing

Summer is is the perfect time to make plans on how you could spend quality time with your kids. Some parents think that it’s hard to find an outdoor activity that they can all enjoy. Fortunately, fishing in Myrtle Beach is the perfect activity for people of all ages.

At Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises, you choose from our private fishing charters for your fishing trip with your kids this summer. Kids who learn to fish will develop a sense of respect for the water and they will also start to love the outdoors while acquiring a unique set of skills.

Reasons To Take Your Kids On A Fishing Myrtle Beach

Take Their Eyes Off Their Screens

Kids these days love their screens. Whether it is a handheld video game, tablet, or phone, they will most likely have it in front of their faces and in their hands several hours every day. Technology is not evil but when it is abused and causes a certain type of addiction then it comes a real problem.

So, instead of leaving them with their gadget, why don’t you bring them outside and let them get their hands on a fishing rod? The experience of a fish hitting their line is something that technology cannot provide and it will help them disconnect from technology and let them connect to the real world.

The next generation need to know how to fish because if they don’t, they would put the fishing industry at risk. And it all begins with bringing them outside, teaching them about mother nature and how to protect it, and helping them realize just how beautiful the outdoors is. A lot of kids are not getting their needed experience in nature and many of them don’t know how to fish. Bring your kids outside, place a fishing rod in their hands, and teach them how to admire and respect the outdoors.

Teach Children Patience

Countless TV channels and entertainment options online seem to teach kids that they can get whatever they want whenever they want. It means, the past pace lives these days and the ease of access to almost everything at any time will do a disservice when it comes to learning how to be patient. If you expose your children to fishing in Myrtle Beach, you are teaching them that good things come to those who know how to wait.

At Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises, our team is passionate about getting you, your kids, your loved ones, and friends out on the water to create lasting memories. Apart from fishing Myrtle Beach, we also offer dolphin adventure cruises.

Call Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises and let us help you and your children have a wonderful day out on the water.

Hot Weather Boating and Summer Fishing Tips

The heat, blue skies and sudden thunderstorms can make fishing in the summer months difficult. The weather is usually beautiful, which makes it ideal for relaxing on the beach or getting a tan.

If you don’t have the right knowledge, you might not be able to fish in these conditions. Although July and August have been the hottest months in South Carolina, Myrtle Beach fishing can still be excellent if you plan your trips well.

When Is The Best Time To Go Fishing?

The best time to deep sea fishing is in the morning and the evening. Fish won’t bite as well due to the higher water temperatures at midday.

Low oxygen levels. Throwing artificial baits at the first light is one of the many things I like to do with our customers. We cover ground for approximately an hour, then stop to switch to live or cut bait. You can find a lot of Snook on beaches, passes and coastal docks. They should stay there until the water temperatures drop.

Redfish prefer live or cut pinfish as their bait of choice. Trout can still be caught, but it can be difficult to find them. Use a free-lined greenback to find a mixture of grass and sand bottom. If you need to go deeper, add a pinch weight. An area with plenty of fry bait is a good option.

What Is The Best Fishing Method?

fishing-2.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&w=300&h=300&fit=maxDeep sea fishing in Myrtle Beach is the best and most enjoyable way to fish. The targeted species include:

  • Cobia
  • Sharks
  • Mangrove snapper
  • Mackerel
  • Grouper

They can all be found throughout the bay. For the next few weeks, late-season Tarpon would be in the artificial reefs, and shipping channels as a refuge to feed and then seek shelter. If the fish are active during stronger tides, you can use a live Threadfin Herring and large Pilchard.

To fool picky eaters, we use dead baits and then small cut and live baits. The Spanish Mackerel is a common sight, often pushing the Snappers back to the bottom. A healthy bottom is indicated by a lot of Mackerel and Snappers. There may also be some groupers.

Even though it can get very hot, we still catch plenty of fish especially when we go on a fishing trip. We also keep our rods bent by changing when, where and for what purpose we fish. You should always bring water and sun protection, especially if you are not accustom to being in the sun. As always, be aware of the weather. Summer thunderstorms can be quite severe!

Voyager charter fishing provides all the bait and a rod if needed, however, feel free to bring your own fishing equipment. Our captains know where the fish are biting at any time of the year.

Fishing Seasons In Myrtle Beach

People tend to ask how’s the fishing and when is the best time to book a fishing charter. If you are interested in fishing in Myrtle Beach, then the answer is it’s always a good time.

The fishing season in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, may change, but every season provides something special. You can enjoy going on a deep sea fishing trip all year round in South Carolina.

Fishing Myrtle Beach Season

Spring Fishing

It is a transitional time during the spring in Myrtle Beach. The water, which was cold last winter, will start to feel warm. Plus, the bait fish will slowly return to the estuary. The Blue Crabs will start their molting process, while the schools of Red Drum will get divided into singles and smaller groups. The end of March marks the start of flounder moving out of the ocean and into the beaches and inlets. Speckled sea trout would move deeper into holding areas and into shallower water during feeding time. Myrtle Beach fishing in the spring could be extremely tricky, but fishing during this season can be fantastic with the right tactics and weather.

Summer Fishing

fishing-Myrtle-Beach-3.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&w=300&h=300&fit=maxMemorable sunsets, sweet tea, BBQ, and warm water. That’s what summer is. Plus, it is also a great time to go fishing. You can target different species like Sea Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, Sharks, Tarpon, and Redfish. But during summer, the primary focus is Redfish and Tarpon. If you like wade fishing, then summer is the best time for fishing redfish during flood tides, which are commonly scheduled at night.

Fall Fishing

The fall season in the Grand Strand is the favorite time of the year of countless people. The shrimp are in full growth, plus the mullet runs are in full swing. Trophy Red Drum, Sharks, and Tarpon are gaining weight for winter. Speckled Sea Trout and redfish start to gather, and they could be found chasing shrimp or feeding under the birds.

Winter Fishing

Clear waters and mild weather is perfect for great sight fishing in Myrtle Beach. Redfish are the main targets, together with Speckled Sea trout. You’ll also find schools of redfish. Sight fishing in winter could be wonderful with the right tides and weather.
